Mark Wahlberg first rose to
fame as Marky Mark the rapper. With the help of his older brother
Donnie Wahlberg (then part of the group New Kids on the Block) Mark formed
Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. Mark was the front man. DJ T
mixed the tracks. Scottie G, Ashey Ace and Hector were the dancers.
Marky Mark began touring with New Kids on the Block
in 1990 and the group was received well by the New Kids fans. In
1991 Mark's debut single "Good Vibrations" (Ed. is that name
familiar??) was released. It was a huge success. It became a
number 1 hit on the U.S. Billboard chart. Following this the group's
debut album "Music For The People" was released. That too
charted number 1 on the U.S. Billboard chart. The second released
single "Wildside" became a top ten hit stateside.
However, the group's early success was never repeated.
Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch released a second
album ("You Gotta Believe") in 1992. However, its release
was met with little enthusiasm.
Mark went onto work with the rapper Prince Ital and
enjoyed a number of hits within Europe but never seem to enjoy the same
level of success in the States.
During the mid-90's Mark's acting career started
taking off and Mark decided to concentrate on acting instead of rapping. |
